M.A.E. 1ST TERM
During the school year 2007-08, 2bA students got involved in the ELOS experimental project. The aim was to apply the “ELOS European & International Orientation” guidelines for European Dimension content in a classroom situation. For this purpose, a programme was designed so that EIO, English & ICT were integrated.
Mobile Accross Europe
To structure the activity a general topic was suggested: Mobile phones in Europe. This topic connected with more “serious” content like European regulations and legislations, Institutions, facts about the countries in the EU, technological aspects were also considered as an interesting point, etc. And, needless to say, it was a familiar, everyday life related topic.
This activity was designed for the first term in order to have a possibility to evaluate the following aspects:
- Students’ attitude to the proposal.
- Their interest to learn about EU.
- Their ability to apply school learnings to other learning situations, especifically English.
- Their ability to apply school learning of ICT to develop and enhance their productions.
The project was to be carried out by students in pairs and they could choose to use any programme they were familiar with:
- A presentatio: Power Point
- An article: Word
- A web-page or blog
The outcomes were mostly power point presentations and they were varied in level of research, written production and understanding of some of the parameters ofthe project (restrict the info to EU). The most remarkable differences appeared in the level of involvement in the task. Here are some examples.
An article: Mobile Phones
A blog: The M0bile phone
A couple of Power Point Presentations:
- History of M. Phone Mobile Phones: history
- Comparing Tariffs the-price-of-calls
The evaluation was carried out both by the teacher and the stdents. Each group presented their outcomes to the whole class
